Half Fast Flying Adventures

Brian Aukes is now the latest Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) in the Iowa skies. After taking lessons like crazy with Tony Condon over the past couple months, he wrapped up his check ride with Don Wood this afternoon and immediately headed up to Taco Time to celebrate (yeah, we're not big spenders).
              Congratulations Brian!!!

Tonight, I had the privilege of toasting Brian on his momentous accomplishment, over a Bud Light…or two. What I did not expect was getting the first official flying lesson given by this new CFI on gyroscopic precession. I just wanted to have a beer and hear about your check ride, not a lecture on the left turning tendencies of a airplane. If I would have had my log book with me, you probably would have wanted to endorse it!

A significant achievement for an aviator!

Jeff,

how did he teach Gyroscopic Precession?

Hey Tony,
I can only assume that Brian’s method of teaching GP was handed down from you. He tried to explain by using some complex aeronautical engineering explanation which quickly went over me. However I fought back with a question to him “If you had a "thrust" of say 10 newtons, 4 times per second, how would you figure out how much thrust/sec you have? He did not know the answer, and said he would have to check with you.

Congrats, Brian!
This is Chris Jones - Tony and I stopped by one night after flying the red & white RV-7A last fall. I mentioned to Tony that I need a BFR, and he informed me that you were a legitimate CFI now, sooooooooo....... Do I get a discount for being your first 'official' student?? :-)

I admit, I have not been on this webpage in a long time... however it was another joy to see It is such an important topic and ignored by so many, even professionals. I thank you to help making people more aware of possible issues.
Great stuff as usual....
