Brian and I have just started a quick project to upgrade some of our headsets before the flying season starts. (As you can see, Annabelle's helping out, too). Oregon Aero makes headset upgrades (new cushions, etc.), and we've picked up some things for our David & Clarks. This should make those long flights a bit more comfortable. What's your spring projects underway?

One Goose vs. One Beech Baron. Winner: Neither.
Just a friendly reminder that we share the skies with some hefty feathered friends.
These pictures show how a goose at 185 knots can ruin your day. The pilot was injured but was able to land the aircraft (Beech Baron) safely.

Miraculously, the pilot survived the head-on collision with the goose.

The goose tore through the fuselage from front to tail. If a goose can do that, imagine what Superman could do. Watch out for flying caped crusaders in the skies, too.
Just a quick heads up that I've added some amazing photos from Pearl Harbor on the Taledragger page, courtesy of Larry Miller. What an incredible reminder of the bravery and sacrifice of our military folks.
Since we're in the middle of T6 projects, I thought I'd share this photo. The Sokos hung out with us for the weekend awhile back, the Sawhills stopped by, and we took a look at a leaky fuel gauge on the Texan. How many people does it take to fix a fuel gauge? The answer is... six. One woman with small enough hands to get to it (Diane), and five for emotional support (yes, we were circled her as she worked).
After a couple months of spending weekends at the hangar, the annual inspections have been completed. Whew!
Like every year, there's plenty of little projects now... a tweak here and there to get the planes in top shape for flying season. For example, this weekend Brian cleaned up some of the wiring with little plastic tie straps to keep it neater and better protected. How about you? Any tweaks you've done to your airplane this year?
This was the first weekend of 2011 that Brian didn't go out to the hangar. Not even one day. Wow! Instead, he stayed at home, and we did some necessary but not nearly as much fun odds-and-ends needed around the house. So, since I don't have any current aviation-related news to share, I thought I'd pull out an old memory to relive. And what could be better than my first ride in a Mustang?
A few years back, at the Stearman Fly-In, our friend Tony Buechler stopped by in his gorgeous P-51 Petie 2nd. While catching up on aerial adventures and stories involving big guns, Tony turned to me and said, 'you wanna go for a ride?" Before he could change his mind, I was buckled in his jumpseat in under 1.3 seconds. After the ride of a lifetime, I firmly believe the "P" in P-51 stands for Perfect.
How about you? What is one of your fond aviation memories?
